The current development of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic shows a continuous emergence and spread of genetic variants of the virus with partly increased infection potential and increased pathogenicity. It is, therefore, necessary to monitor and research these dynamic processes of variant development and spread. Sequencing and bioinformatic analysis of complete viral genomes is the method of choice for this.
Our consortium of facilities from the Mainz University Medical Center, Johannes Gutenberg University and StarSEQ offers the technological platform for SARS-CoV-2 sequence analysis according to the guidelines of the Robert Koch Institute. The genome sequences created by us are included in the national surveillance initiative in accordance with the Coronavirus Surveillance Ordinance (CorSurV).
